The basics

6 questions

What is CyphrPost?

CyphrPost is a private social network for you and the people you choose. You can post photos, comment and chat, like on other social apps. The difference is that your posts, photos, comments and messages are encrypted on your phone before they’re sent. We can’t read them, and neither can anyone else outside your friends.

Is it free? Are there ads?

CyphrPost is free to join and has no ads. We don’t sell your data and there’s no advertiser paying for your attention. The app is supported by the people who use it, through Buy Me a Coffee.

Who can see my posts?

Only your friends and the people you choose. There are no public posts on CyphrPost, we can’t see anything and neither can strangers.

How does my feed work?

Your feed shows your friends’ posts, newest first. There’s no algorithm choosing what you see, no ranking and no sponsored posts.

How do I sign up?

Use your email address, your Google account, or your Apple ID (Apple sign-in is on iPhone only). You need to be 18 or older. Email addresses with a plus sign in them (like name+extra@gmail.com) can’t be used to sign up with email.

How do I find my friends?

Search for them by name or username, scan their CyphrPost QR code, or send them your invite link. If someone joins from your invite link, a friend request to you is sent automatically once they finish setting up. While your feed is still empty, the Home screen also suggests friends of your friends.

Privacy and encryption

6 questions

Can CyphrPost read my posts and messages?

No. Your posts, photos, captions, comments, bio and chats (one-on-one and group) are encrypted on your phone before they leave it. The keys stay with you and your friends, not with us. Our encryption is provided by Seald, a French company owned by OVHcloud.

So what can CyphrPost see?

The few things we need to run your account: your email address, your name, your username and your profile photo. We also see when you joined, the time things were posted, like and comment counts, and who you’re friends with (so your posts reach the right people). If the app crashes, we get a basic crash report to help us fix it.

Your name, username and profile photo are how people find you, so anyone on CyphrPost can see them. Your bio is encrypted and only your friends can read it.

Does CyphrPost remove the location from my photos?

Yes. Photos carry hidden details, like where they were taken and what phone took them. CyphrPost strips these off on your phone before the photo is encrypted and uploaded. You’ll see “Removing metadata…” while this happens. If it can’t be removed, the photo isn’t uploaded.

Why don’t my notifications say what people wrote?

On purpose. Notifications on your lock screen never show names or content. Inside the app, a notification tells you who did something (for example, that someone commented on your post), never what they said. Open the app to read it.

Can other people share my posts?

No. Only you can share a link to your own post. The link shows a plain CyphrPost image, never your photo or caption, and only your friends can open the post itself.

Is my content used to train AI or sold to anyone?

No. We can’t open your posts or messages, so there’s nothing for us to sell, scan or feed to an AI model.

Your account and devices

7 questions

Why can I only be logged in on one phone at a time?

It keeps your account in your hands. Your account can only be active on one device at a time, so nobody can quietly log in somewhere else while you’re still using it. If you try to log in on a second phone, you’ll see “Active session detected” and you choose what happens next.

I got a new phone. Why am I being asked for a code from Seald?

This is how you prove your encrypted posts and chats belong to you. When you log in on a new phone, after reinstalling the app, or after clearing the app’s data, Seald by OVHcloud, our encryption partner, emails you a verification code. Enter it in the app to unlock your posts and chats on that device. If you log in again on the same phone you usually use, you won’t be asked for it. Look for an email from Seald by OVHcloud.

This is a different code from the one CyphrPost emails you when you first sign up. Never share either code with anyone.

My phone was lost or stolen. What should I do?

Log in to CyphrPost on your new phone. When you see “Active session detected”, tap Log out of the other device. This logs you in on the new phone and signs the lost phone out at the same time. Then enter the Seald code from your email to unlock your posts and chats.

It also helps to lock or erase the lost phone using Find My (iPhone) or Find My Device (Android).

What if I can’t log the other device out myself?

On the “Active session detected” screen, tap Can’t access your other device? Contact Us, or email admin@cyphrpost.com. A CyphrPost admin can end the session on your old device for you, so you can log in on your new one. To keep your account safe, we may email you first and ask a few questions to confirm it’s yours.

What happens when I log out?

You’re signed out of this phone. Next time you log in, you’ll need to verify the device again to unlock and restore your chats.

I signed up with Apple and chose Hide My Email. Anything I should know?

Yes. Your account is tied to the hidden Apple email, not your real one. Always log in with Apple. If you sign up again with your real email address, you’ll get a second, separate account.

How do I delete my account?

Go to Settings and choose Delete Account. Your account is deleted after 30 days. If you change your mind, log back in within those 30 days and your account comes back. After 30 days, everything in the account (posts, photos, comments, chats and profile details) is permanently deleted. This includes your one-on-one chats, so the people you chatted with lose those messages too. None of it can be recovered by you or by us.

Safety and reporting

5 questions

How do I report someone, a post or a comment?

Tap the menu on the profile, post or comment and choose Report. Pick a reason, such as spam, harassment, hate speech, a scam or a fake profile, and attach a screenshot of what you saw. Then send it.

Why should I attach a screenshot?

Because we can’t see what was posted. Everything on CyphrPost is encrypted, including from our own team. Your screenshot is the only way an admin can see what happened. A screenshot is optional, but a report without one is much harder for us to act on.

Can I report a chat message?

Not directly. Chats are encrypted end to end, so they can’t be reported from inside the chat. Instead, report the person from their profile and attach a screenshot of the messages.

What happens after I report?

Our admin will review the report and your screenshot. Admins can’t see posts or comments, so they can’t remove a single post or comment. Instead, they act on the account that broke the rules:

  • Warning: the admin emails the person directly.
  • Suspension: the account is banned for good. It can’t be logged into again, and the same email can’t be used to create a new account.
  • Deletion: the account and everything in it is permanently removed. The person could sign up again as a new user, starting from nothing.
What happens when I block someone?

They can no longer see your posts, and they can’t find you in search. Your one-on-one chat with them stays readable, but neither of you can send new messages. If you’re both in a group chat, you’ll both stay in it and can still see each other’s messages there. The app reminds you of this when you block someone.

Privacy tips

CyphrPost already strips location from your photos. These steps stop that information leaving your phone in the first place, and they protect you in other apps too.

The steps below are taken from Apple’s, Samsung’s and Google’s own support pages (checked October 2026). Phone makers change their menus with software updates, so if something looks different on your phone, check your phone maker’s latest help page.

iPhone: leave out location when you pick photos

When CyphrPost (or any app) asks you to select photos:

  1. Tap the ••• button at the bottom left of the photo picker.
  2. Tap Options. Underneath, it will say “Location Is Included”.
  3. Turn off Location and Captions.
  4. Tap the tick to go back and choose your photos.

iPhone: leave out location when you share a photo

  1. Open the photo in the Photos app and tap Share.
  2. Tap Options at the top of the share sheet.
  3. Turn off Location, then tap Done.

iPhone doesn’t remember this setting, so turn it off each time you share.

Samsung: leave out location when you share a photo

  1. Open the Gallery app and press and hold the photo. Tap any others you want to send.
  2. Tap Share.
  3. Tick Remove location data.
  4. Choose the app you’re sending to.

Stop your camera saving your location

iPhoneSettings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > Camera > choose Never.
Samsung GalaxyOpen Camera, tap the Settings gear, then turn off Location tags.
Google PixelOpen Camera, tap Settings (bottom left), then More settings, and turn off Save location.
Any other Android phone (such as Motorola or OPPO)Settings > Apps > your camera app > Permissions > Location > Don’t allow. This works even if you can’t find a location setting inside the camera.

Remove location from a photo you’ve already taken

iPhoneOpen the photo in Photos, swipe up or tap the (i) button, tap Adjust next to the location, then choose No Location.
Google Photos (any Android phone)Open the photo and swipe up. Tap the edit icon next to the location, then Remove location.
Samsung GalleryOpen the photo and swipe up. Tap Edit, tap the minus sign next to the location, then Save. You’ll need to do this one photo at a time.

Check the background before you post

Removing hidden data can’t hide what’s in the picture. House numbers, street signs, school logos and car number plates can all give away where you are.

Choose a profile photo you’d show a stranger

Your name, username and profile photo are visible to anyone on CyphrPost so friends can find you. Keep personal photos for your posts, which only friends can see.

Remember your friends can still screenshot

Encryption keeps your posts away from us and from outsiders. It can’t stop a friend taking a screenshot, so share with people you trust.

Keep your phone locked

Use a passcode, Face ID or fingerprint. Turn on Find My (iPhone) or Find My Device (Android) so you can lock a lost phone. Because CyphrPost only allows one active device, you can then sign the lost phone out from your new one.

Android: check which apps can see your location

Go to Settings > Location > App location permissions. Set any app that doesn’t need your location to Don’t allow, and the rest to Allow only while using the app. Menu names can differ slightly between phone brands.

Hide message previews in your other apps

CyphrPost notifications never show content on your lock screen. For your other apps on iPhone, go to Settings > Notifications > Show Previews and choose When Unlocked.
